The Best FAMU Thesis/Dissertation Award 2023


As the case was as last year, the Award for the Best FAMU Diploma/Dissertation Thesis will be bestowed this year too, involving prize money of CZK 15,000. The purpose of the Award is to motivate students in writing their theoretical diploma/dissertation theses and promote the best resulting papers. Nominations are submitted by supervisors and/or Heads of Departments following the successful defence of each diploma/dissertation thesis during the state final examination. The nominations must be submitted to Vice-Dean for Research and Development Helena Bendová by 5 October.

Intended for:

- Graduating master’s and doctoral programme students; the nominations for the award shall come from their thesis supervisors / tutors (including external tutors) following the successful defence of each diploma/dissertation thesis during the state final examination

 

Objectives of the grant:

- The purpose of this Award, which has been bestowed since 2020, is to motivate students in writing their diploma/dissertation theses and aid in promoting excellent final theory theses to be read by more students, FAMU teachers, and the general public
- The author of the winning theoretical diploma/dissertation thesis at FAMU, defended during the academic year 2022/23 (i.e. in the period from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023) will receive the Award including prize money of CZK 15,000 in November or December 2023.

Award nominations and the decision-making process:

- The nominations are to be submitted either by the thesis supervisors (including external ones) or, with doctoral students, their tutor, and/or Head of the Department following the successful defence of the thesis during the state final examination.

- The nomination must include:

  • Student’s name and e-mail contact
  • A .pdf file with the diploma/dissertation thesis attached

- Nominations must be submitted to helena.bendova@famu.cz by 5 October 2023 at the latest.

- The winning text will be chosen by a jury of experts involving Helena Bendová (Vice-Dean of FAMU for Research and Development), David Čeněk (Vice-Dean of FAMU for International Affairs) and Martin Šrajer (critic and editor of Film a doba and Filmový přehled).
