Appeal from the Rector regarding the extraordinary appeal from scientists

Dear Colleagues, Dear Students,

The epidemiologic situation is deteriorating rapidly, and not just in our country but all over the world.

In connection with this difficult situation, Czech scientists (Assoc. Prof. Vojtěch Petráček, Rector of CTU, particle physicist; Dr. Petr Smejkal, infectologist and Chief Epidemiologist of IKEM Praha; Assoc. Prof. Jan Konvalinka, Vice-Rector of Charles University for Research and Development, biochemist; Assoc. Prof. Jakub Steiner, economist at the Center for Theoretical Study of CU and CAS, Cerge-Ei, and the Edinburgh University; Vladimír Ždímal, Head of the Department of Aerosol Chemistry and Physics CAS; Petr Ludwig, data scientist and complex system modelling and simulation specialist; and Dana Drábová, Ph.D., nuclear physicist and Vice-Mayor of Pyšely) have issued an extraordinary appeal to the general public – go out among people only if absolutely necessary (read the appeal here).

I am joining this appeal and asking all AMU employees and students to use the home office mode of operation and distance learning as much as possible, to submit all communication electronically, and to come to AMU (as well as other places) only when absolutely necessary until the situation stabilises.

I thank you and wish you all strength.

Yours sincerely,

Assoc. Prof. Jan Hančil
Rector
