Lecture and discussion "Forms of discrimination in the academic environment"

FAMU invites all AMU employees and students to a lecture and discussion on the topic of forms of discrimination in the academic environment, which will take place on December 14, 2021 from 4 pm to 6 pm in the form of an online video conference. The event will be translated into English.

At the lecture you will learn:

• what different forms discrimination can take under current law,
• how to recognise discrimination in your life and how to tackle it effectively,
• when differential treatment between two students may be permissible,
• how discrimination in the academic environment can best be prevented and what each of us ( students, teachers, school management) can do to prevent it.

In the discussion you:

• will learn about typical examples of discrimination in an academic environment.
• can ask about anything that interests you personally in the area of protection from discrimination

Petr Polák has worked at the Ombudsman's Office since 2007 as a lawyer. At the end of 2019, he switched to the Disability Rights Protection Division, where he focuses on accessibility, education and employment for people with disabilities. Prior to that, he headed the Equal Treatment Division for eight years. Between 2015 and 2019, he was a board member of the Equinet network of European equality bodies and also moderated the Policy Formation working group. He is the co-author of the publication Anti-discrimination Law in Jurisprudence and Practice (C. H. Beck, 2017) and several proceedings and scholarly articles. He also works on age and gender discrimination and the protection of the rights of ethnic and sexual minorities. He regularly lectures on discrimination for the European Academy of Law (Trier) and is a national tutor for the HELP programme of the Council of Europe.
