International students are returning to FAMU

Following a “tentative” winter semester with fewer students, our one-semester programs prepared in cooperation with partners in the USA and our summer schools are returning almost to their former – pre-covid – magnitude in the summer semester. In many cases, our summer school schedule is back with programs that had not been provided since 2019.

You are most likely to encounter NYU, CET and CIEE students in the FAMU Studio classrooms that serve as their base. The objective of those programs is to educate the participants on the process of developing and producing short films using either 16 mm or 35 mm movie film. The single semester that they spend at FAMU is packed with intensive theoretical and practical learning and graduates rightly refer to it as a life-changing experience.

The summer schools are still ahead. Over the course of roughly two summer months, we will prepare even more intensive film and digital experiences for several dozen participants from all over the world.

Taking almost no rest, we are opening new groups in September: the most numerous CET (both 16 mm and 35 mm film), the somewhat smaller CIEE (16 mm) and cinematography-oriented NYU (35 mm). Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that the energy, which the people on both FAMU and FAMU Studio teams put in their work on short-term programs, comes to fruition in a successful academic year 2022/2023, unaffected by Covid-19.
