60th anniversary of Cannes Critic’s week in Prague

We would like to inform our students about the possibility of enrolling in the module 60th anniversary of the Critics' Week in Cannes in Prague, which can be found in KOS under the code 300MCCW. The module will be conducted in English and is intended for the entire FAMU. https://sp.amu.cz/en/predmet300MCCW.html

Event date: October 21, 2022
Venue: KINO 35 Institut français de Prague, Štěpánská 644/35, 110 00 Prague 1 https://kino35.ifp.cz

Screenings, a film criticism workshop led by curator and film critic Miquel Escudero Dieguez, and a presentation of the editorial line and a selection of films of the Critic's Week are prepared for the students. Students will also learn about the strategy of selecting films for the competitive festival. Students will get a better understanding of Critics Week's curatorial strategy.

Critics' Week has been held since 1962 under the auspices of the French Association of Film Critics as a parallel section of the Cannes International Film Festival. It does not focus on the length or genre of films but seeks to encourage the first film attempts of talented filmmakers from all over the world.

Filmmakers such as Bernardo Bertolucci, Leos Carax, Ken Loach, Jacques Audiard, François Ozon, and Gaspar Noé got their start here. What is most interesting is the way in which the section works with the selected filmmakers over the long term - Critics' Week also acts as an incubator, helping filmmakers to develop their next projects.

The program can be downloaded here.

Attendance is mandatory on October 21, 2022 for the entire program. The program continues on October 22, 2022, in which participation is no longer mandatory. If students are interested in attending screenings on the day, they can secure entry by filling out this form by 5:00 p.m. on October 20: https://forms.office.com/r/Z9frpkZQfk .
