Academy of Performing Arts in Prague holds additional admission tests for Ukrainian applicants

This September, all three Faculties of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (the Theatre Faculty, the Film and TV School, and the Music and Dance Faculty) organised additional admission tests intended for Ukrainian applicants for study beginning with the academic year 2022/2023.

The Film and TV School (FAMU) organised the additional admission exams for three bachelor’s study programmes in Czech. The total number of applicants was 8; two students complied with the requirements of the admission procedure and were therefore admitted to the Department of Documentary Film and the Department of Editing.
There are 13 students enrolled in FAMU’s short-term mobility programme. For the time being, there are three modules prepared for them, each of two months in duration, and certain FAMU Departments have again offered the students an opportunity to take an active part in some of the subjects they teach.
The students are actively involved in FAMU’s activities, they can understand Czech and most of them actually speak Czech as well.

The Theatre Faculty (DAMU) organised the additional admission examination for five bachelor’s programmes and six post-bachelor’s programmes in Czech. The Faculty received a total of 19 applications from 17 applicants. The admission panels proposed five applicants to be admitted to study, with one of the applicants recommended for admission to both programmes she had applied for.
Four of the applicants passed the examination in Czech on the required B1 level and were enrolled for studies at the Department of Arts Management, Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy, and Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre.
In addition to the applicants from Ukraine who were admitted to study as part of the additional admission procedure, two other applicants were also admitted to DAMU’s post-bachelor programmes of study in Czech as part of the regular admission procedure, specifically to the Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy and to the Department of Theory and Criticism. One applicant was admitted as part of the regular admission procedure to a post-bachelor programme in English at the Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy. As a result, DAMU has seven new duly admitted students from Ukraine.
The Theatre Faculty is also running its short-term mobility programme, offering a curriculum of 10 subjects across the faculty to 12 enrolled Ukrainian students.

The Music and Dance Faculty (HAMU) held the additional admission procedure from 13 to 16 September 2022. In total, 20 of the applications submitted complied with the requirements (17 applications for bachelor’s programmes and three for master’s programmes). Eight applicants have been admitted for the academic year 2022/2023: two applicants were admitted to bachelor’s programmes in choreography, one to the Keyboard Instruments Department, two to the String Instruments Department, and one to the Voice and Opera Directing Department. In terms of HAMU’s master’s programmes, two Voice and Opera Directing applicants were successful in the admission procedure. Twelve of the applicants did not satisfy the requirements of the admission procedure. One Ukrainian student is taking an internship at the Dance Department during the winter semester of the academic year 2022/2023. There were other applicants interested in studying at HAMU; however, they did not meet statutory requirements stipulated by ‘Lex Ukraine’.
