The reaction of the FAMU leadership to the demands of the 'University for the Climate'

The leadership of FAMU fully endorses and identifies with the requirements of the student initiative, Universities for Climate; as far as our operation is concerned, our institution either complies with such requirements or works on compliance with them. With every passing month, we strive to progress closer towards acting in a sustainable manner. Having addressed waste management issues and supported free and swap shops, we are currently working on energy-related measures: we have reduced both day- and night-time temperature in all rooms by one degree Celsius, in effect saving approximately 15% of gas that would otherwise be consumed. Next summer, a part of the lighting system in the Lažanský Palace will be retrofitted to a more energy-saving alternative. We are preparing a selection procedure for our sustainability ambassador. When entering into partnerships with the private sector, we consult the FAMU for Climate initiative, and we are preparing a code of responsible cooperation. We have recently launched an information campaign in order to motivate our students and teachers to embrace green filming practices, and our technical and office staff to pursue a sustainable mode of office operation. We are working on a manual for sustainable production of student film exercises, and have organised (and are preparing more) teaching modules on green filming practices. FAMU students have both production and communication support from the Faculty to organise their programme as part of the student climate strike.
